Standing with Attorney General Tong in Defense of Climate, Justice, and Democracy

The Connecticut Roundtable on Climate and Jobs proudly thanks Attorney General William Tong for his courageous leadership in defending environmental justice, climate investments, and the rights of Connecticut communities.

At the Connecticut Roundtable on Climate and Jobs (CRCJ), we believe that leadership rooted in justice, accountability, and public good is more critical than ever. That’s why we’re proud to publicly thank Attorney General William Tong for his steadfast efforts to defend democracy, environmental justice, and the rights of working people in Connecticut.

In recent months, we’ve witnessed unjustified federal actions to freeze—and in many cases, revoke—critical climate and clean energy funding from states like ours. These abrupt decisions have had real consequences. At CRCJ, our own EPA grant was suddenly frozen and eventually terminated without clear explanation. Many of our partners have experienced similar disruptions, throwing community-based climate work into uncertainty.

Throughout this period, Attorney General Tong has spoken out and taken action to challenge these harmful decisions. His leadership has offered hope and solidarity in a moment when many of us have felt abandoned by federal systems. We’re especially grateful for his work to:

  • Defend the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and protect the federal investments it promised for climate action, clean energy, and economic justice.
  • Uphold environmental justice and equity as constitutional and essential pillars of sound public policy.
  • Fight the rollback of federal environmental protections that keep our communities safe and healthy.
  • Protect energy efficiency standards that help families lower utility bills while reducing emissions.
  • Hold fossil fuel companies accountable for their role in the climate crisis.
  • Resist politically motivated attacks on the offshore wind industry, a sector with immense potential to create good union jobs and drive economic development across the region.

While many of these legal battles are still ongoing, Attorney General Tong’s commitment to justice and community power has already made a lasting impact. His work reinforces what we know to be true: that equity and sustainability are not in conflict with good governance—they are central to it.

CRCJ remains committed to working alongside leaders like Attorney General Tong to build a more resilient, equitable future for all Connecticut residents. We are deeply grateful for his advocacy and look forward to continuing the fight together.
