May 1st—International Workers’ Day—has long been a day to celebrate worker power and demand justice on the job. But this year, May Day comes at a time of extraordinary threat and urgent need for collective action.
Under the current administration, workers and nonprofits are under attack. Federal “priority shifts” have frozen critical funding, shut down environmental justice programs, and forced layoffs in community-based organizations across the country. These decisions aren’t just budgetary—they’re political. They send a clear message that the wellbeing of workers, the environment, and vulnerable communities is not a priority.
Here in Connecticut, we are feeling the impact. Climate-smart farming programs are being paused. Union-supported workforce training initiatives are facing delays. Advocacy groups are scrambling to keep programs alive. All while families struggle to keep food on the table, utilities paid, and communities safe from climate disasters.
We are in an existential moment. The foundations of environmental and economic justice are being shaken—and if we don’t come together now, we risk losing decades of progress.
That’s why we at the Connecticut Roundtable on Climate and Jobs (CRCJ) are calling on everyone in our network and beyond to act this May Day:
Show Up
Join us this Thursday, May 1st, for a May Day rally in Hartford at Bushnell Park or New Haven Town Green. Stand with labor unions, climate justice groups, and community advocates as we demand public investment in good jobs, clean energy, and frontline communities.
Support the Movement
We challenge you to donate at least $10 today to help us fill critical funding gaps, sustain our organizing, and advocate for strong, equitable policies at the state and federal level. Every dollar helps power the movement. Donate now.

On May Day, we honor the power of working people. But we also recommit to protecting what we’ve built and fighting for what comes next. Now more than ever, we must stand united.
Let’s raise our voices together—for climate, for jobs, for justice.
In solidarity,
The Connecticut Roundtable on Climate and Jobs
