CRCJ Has a Paid Internship Position!

CT Roundtable on Climate and Jobs (CRCJ) is seeking a part-time intern for our Carbon Free & Healthy Schools campaign for the Spring 2023 semester. The intern will strategically organize Bridgeport residents, especially youth, around local climate change and environmental justice solutions. They will lead community engagement for the Carbon Free and Healthy Schools initiative through outreach to community organizations and by developing and facilitating a youth-led steering committee.

Position Logistics

• This is a seasonal internship that culminates at the end of June 2023 with the potential to transition to a year-round part-time staff position. 
• The salary for this position is $750 per month ($18.75/hour). 
• The intern will work 10 hours per week. The schedule may vary week-to-week and will depend in part on community meetings and events, but is generally flexible.
• The position is based in Bridgeport, CT and will require travel within the city to attend local meetings and events. The intern will need a reliable means of transportation.
• The intern must provide their own computer and have access to a space with a stable internet connection for virtual meetings.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Develop, facilitate, and recruit for a Youth Steering Committee for the Bridgeport Carbon Free & Healthy Schools initiative and other local environmental and climate justice projects
• Meet with community groups and residents of all ages and backgrounds virtually or in-person to identify and foster grassroots leadership for the Bridgeport Carbon Free & Healthy Schools initiative
• Plan and facilitate monthly or bi-weekly meetings of the established CFHS Steering Committee, comprised of school district staff and union representatives, building trades representatives, and community leaders
• Develop strategic communications materials to advertise and advance the Carbon Free & Healthy Schools initiative
• Represent the organization in a professional manner at all times

Required Skills/Abilities

• Strong interpersonal and relational skills with a desire to do people-centered work
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for a wide variety of audiences
• Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and G Suite
• Excellent organizational skills, strong initiative, and attention to detail
• A self-starter that enjoys working in a small team with an ‘all hands on deck’ attitude
• A commitment to addressing the historical and current impacts of racism, sexism, and other social injustices in building a diverse coalition

Education and Experience

• Must have deep relationships in Bridgeport, preferably in the public school system and/or with youth organizations
• High school diploma or equivalent required; some college education preferred
• Background knowledge on climate change, environment, justice and equity issues, and/or organized labor, and an understanding of how these issues intersect
• Advocacy and/or community organizing experience; Proven record of successful issue-based organizing preferred
• Demonstrated experience working effectively and collaboratively with a wide range of people and organizations
• Values that align to our mission and platform
